We have completely finished our house, looking for a house that needs some work done.
A new project.

We plan on moving near Bellerive or Howrah.
To be closer to parks, beach, schools and church.

With open homes every weekend over the next few weeks our house has never looked cleaner.

We had some friends around for a Christmas dinner last Saturday.
We couldn’t be bothered moving the dining room table back up stairs(which we are trying to sell), so I decide to build a table.

Our theory is, because we have our meals at our island bench, we don’t need a dining room table; it only becomes a dumping ground.
So have an outdoor dining set with table and chairs that you can bring inside when needed.

Timber, from the stage that we pulled out in the church, Tas Oak.
Screws, left over’s from other jobs.
So it pretty much cost nothing.

And I like the old nail holes, gives character.

Just did this talk with Bellerive Primary school and will use it again on Christmas day.

Joseph and Mary travelled to Bethlehem along a (rocky road)
They became tired on the journey and needed a (boost)
So Joseph decided it was time to stop for a (picnic)
When they arrived at Bethlehem the only place to stay was a stable full of (furry friends) where the baby Jesus was born.
That night in the field near Bethlehem some shepherds were minding their sheep. It was so cold that the grass was (chunchie).
As they were watching their sheep they were (kinder surprise) by some Angels who told them to go to Bethlehem and see this newborn King.
Meanwhile, in the east there were three (smarties) or wise men who were studying the stars of the (milky way) when they saw a huge star.
They first thought it might have been the planet (mars) but it wasn’t. They followed the star.
When they arrived at Bethlehem they entered and presented their (bounty) of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.
That night the three wise men had a (dream) in which God warned them that King Herod was up to his old (twix) so they returned home without telling him about Jesus.
You see, Christmas is more than Santa, Reindeer and Snow(flake)s
It’s more than having lots and lots of food to (chomp) on
We can get into so much of a (twirl) trying to organise Christmas we forget what it is really about.
This Christmas we need to take some (time out) and remember the best thing about Christmas is JESUS.

We played our last futsal match for the year last Thursday, I will miss it tomorrow.

A group of blokes from church were having a kick on Thursday lunch times.
By group I mean anything from 3-5.
When it was 3 it was hard work.
We would play one on one, goal keeper no hands and the person who scored would stay on and try and get the most wins, I think the best was about 5 in a row.
It was a good break during the day and helped with our lack of fitness.

Some blokes asked what we are going to do next year, so I think we will have to have season 2 in 2012.

I’ve retired from soccer, so I need to do another sport.

Criteria:
# Max 2hrs
# Fun
# Evangelistic opportunities
# A sport that I’m not very good at (I know what you’re thinking, that list is pretty long)
# A sport that I can play when I’m old.

The 2 main options were squash or golf.

I’m going with golf, because I can play whenever I want and I can play by myself or with others.

Last Saturday, Hobart had its Christmas Parade through the main streets of Hobart.

It was a good opportunity to get the Christmas story back into Christmas.

There were even people reading prewritten scripts about each of the groups that were in the parade.
While I was walking a donkey pass these people I heard something along the lines of: “We have the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus our Saviour”

Thank God for this opportunity.

I’ve bought a few things over the internet lately.
One of them arrived day, I wasn’t expecting it.
It was a nice surprise.

Normally I’m a person who has to see, feel and try something before I buy it.

Well that’s changing.
There’s something nice about buying things over the internet.
You can always get what you want for a fraction of the price.
It’s like you’re not really paying for it, you don’t hand over money or swipe a card.
It’s like you’re getting a present when it arrives.
The wait makes you look forward to what you have bought.

I really like it when you forget that you order something and there is a parcel waiting for you when you walk in the door.

My father in law Adrian and mate Alex helped.
We definitely deserved the bbq & beers.

Will did about 5 minutes of work, just enough to get a few photos.

Another job ticked off the list.

Over the last 6 months I’ve being stretched in the areas of my life that I’m not very good at.

God is placing around me people who are causing me to grow in my blind spots, also called my lazy spots.

I’m not a big reader; someone is encouraging me to read.
I don’t think about thinks too long, now I’m really thinking about some things.
I don’t like hard questions, now I’m answering a lot of questions.

Awesome God
Thank you for the people you place in my life to change me.

We had a baptism down at beautiful Bellerive beach, on Sunday.
Jack one of the young guys from youth group and church got baptised.
It was the first baptism I have seen at a beach.

We then headed back up to church for a baptism and confirmation service, where Scott got baptised and then confirmed and also Stuart and Jo were confirmed.

It was really encouraging to see some of the young blokes form church standing up and to say publically that they follow Jesus.

Would you be willing to get baptised at the local beach.
Or stand up in front of family and friends and say you follow Jesus.
Do people you know even know you are a Christian?

In a workshop at a conference the person leading the group said something along the lines, “If you pray kneeling next to your bed try standing up, make a different step, do something different in your prayers.”

I was reminded of this from the sermon on Sunday.

So I thought I do something’s different that I don’t usually do when I pray.

Pray out loud.
Pray with my arms up.
Pray on a mountain.

Awesome God
Reach down into Hobart and bring thousands of people into a right relationship with you.

Recently had a few days at Bruny.

35 min drive, a quick ferry ride and another short drive and your there.
I really like how you can easily get away for a short or long break that isn’t far away.

We did a bit around the shack to get it ready for the summer holidays.
I like how the shack is a shack.

I’m looking forward to the summer holidays with family and good friends down the road.

And summer in TAS is good.

Anita renovated a bed for Will. (She did sub contract some of the work out to me, but she did most of it.)

It’s a rewarding thing.
To be able to stand back and say, “I did that.”
What’s even more rewarding is that Will uses it.

Nights I’m home I put Will to bed and pray with him.
The other night he pointed to the bed, so I lay next him and started reading a bit of his book.
A page latter (that is about 5 words later), he pointed to the door.

That’s 2 yellow cards so I left.

Being a parent is never boring.
The more they learn, the more you learn.

Heidi turned 1 the other day.
(Here’s a photo for family & friends)
I look at her and think, “Where has that year gone.”

A mate from church once told me, that when you have children you can see your life progressing in front of you.
I think he is right.

I don’t notice when I get more gray hair (Anita does, so she reminds me)
But I notice the changes in my kids.

That’s one thing I enjoy about our kids seeing them change, learn new things and growing.

I turned 30 the other day.
Friends asked me what it is like turning 30.
I said, “I feel the same as I was when I was 29, but not the same as when I was 21.”

Mum and Dad gave me a card that said, “Think of it as 18, with 12 years experience.”

I remember hearing in the world of sport that your pinnacle is 27.
It’s when you have the sporting ability and fitness of a young person and the wisdom of an experienced player.

But then again Hobart started an over 35’s comp this year.
And Mark Schwarzer the Australian goal keeper plans on playing in the World Cup 2014, he will be 41!

Maybe I have a few good years in me.

Then again: The older I get the better I was.

Physical fitness & Spiritual fitness

Sometimes we get so busy that we find it hard to make time for things we need.

We know that physical fitness is good for us.
There are billboards around Hobart and on bus’ telling us to Find Thirty.
We are encouraged to do 30minutes of fitness a day.

We also know that spending good time with God is spiritual good for us.
Talking to him in pray and having him talk to us through Bible reading and preaching.

Well I combine both.

I run on our tread mill twice a week to try and keep fit.
While I do I listen to pod casts, mostly from SMBC Principals Hour.
Its good hearing people from college preaching.

I enjoy this time of fitness.

I'm preaching on this question, this Sunday 7th August at our 6pm service.
It's been good to thinking about the topic and put my thinking into a sermon.

There will be an evangelistic edge, I will go to John 15:3, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
The friend everyone wants to have and need is Jesus.
I hope people will leave confirming their friend request from Jesus.

I plan on recording it and putting on our church website.

Pray that people will repent and trust in Jesus.

What is Humpty Dumpty, an egg?
Think through the song, Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall ... couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty together again.
Nowhere in the song does it say that Humpty Dumpty is an egg.

What fruit did Adam & Eve eat, an apple?
“but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.” Gen 2:17
Nowhere in the Bible does it say that the fruit is an apple.

I then encouraged my people to use this method for their Bible reading.
Bible Reading: Something old, something new
Read the passage and write something you have seen before, that you are reminded of.
Then write down something you have seen for the first time.

Then pray.

The Amazing Race

We played "The Amazing Race" at Youth Group last Friday. It went really well.
Finding numbers around the church, knocking down piece's of timber, building straw towers with blue tact, quiz sheets, shooting your shoe through the basketball ring and more.

The study was good.
I find it interesting the amount of questions young people have.
Every week they have more questions and every week I try and give them more answers.

Finished the retaining wall at the front of our house during my holidays.

I love building.

In my 1st year of my carpentry apprenticeship I remember my TAFE teacher asking the class to put up your hand if you love your job.
A few of us did.
He then asked if we would work for free.
All of us said no.
Then he said we don't love our jobs.

This was mention by one of the guest speaker at the SMBC Preaching Conference. It's something I try and do when I preach, especially at Youth Group.

Notice the movements in verse 3.
God caused them to go hungry.
Then He feed them.
So that they might realise that man does not live on bread but the Word of God.

There are things we want that we don't have.
We then get them, only to realise... that wasn't what we really need.

We need the Word of God

It was excellent, the speakers were great.
It was also good to see people from college & talk to them about what they are up to.

I caught with friends & family.
And visited the church I grew up in.

Passover meal on Thursday.

Puppet show & talk at Bellerive primary school.

Preached a 1st person sermon of someone in the crowd at our Good Friday service, it went well.

Our 9am service today had a lot of visitors which is great.
Our Kids Easter service at 11am went well.
Puppet show, songs, prayers, balloons & Easter egg hunt.
In the puppet show the kids made a paper cross.

# Great opportunities to tell people about Jesus.

I’m not use to losing... at soccer. Board games like Scrabble it’s a given; you haven’t seen so many 3 letter words in your life. We have lost our first 4 games by about 4 goals each game. I can’t remembering losing that bad in my soccer career.

When you are not use to something it’s noticeable.

I grew up in a Sydney Anglican church which I thank God for. It’s not a perfect church, they would tell you that. It is a good church.
It’s interesting talking to people in churches here in TAS both ministers and people in the congregation.
Some people have a low expectation on what God can do. They say things like, “It’s nice having a small church.”
“God won’t bring more people in our church than we can handle.”

I wonder if they think this because of their church experience growing up or if it’s theological or just want to be comfortable in their setting.

I hope we get a win soon!

We meet up at a local coffee shop, catch about things & then talk about different topics to do with Christianity.

Last Sunday we had an all age service. Everyone stays in the service and we have a few kids talks instead of a sermon and interaction with the congregation.

This term we are doing the king, the snake and the promise at our Sunday school, so it was the theme for the service.
I think the service stretched many people who haven't thought about the Bible as a whole.

Awesome God I pray that the Markies (Sunday school) kids will grow in their understanding of the Bible and that the parents from the kids talks will also be stretched. Amen

Stephen the guy I work with got back from long service leave recently. His son Stuart gave me the Arsenal boot as a gift, they visited the Arsenal stadium & know that I go for them. Stuart got an Arsenal shirt with is name on the back - maybe prophecy, he's a good player!

We also had our first summer cup game on Saturday. We won 3-0.
I scored a goal. From a direct, I was push from behind in the box, also did I mention that I missed 2 goals that I should have scored, also did I mention that the team we played is 2 grades below us.

Looking forward to this Saturday's game.
Mum & Dad will be down for Heidi's baptism, hopefully they will come along to see me miss 2 goals & score 1!

We bought 3 chooks a wile ago. It was good fun building the chicken coop & run. We have been averaging about 1 egg a day. And I look forward to going down to them in the morning with Will to feed them, change their water & look for eggs & Will loves it.

We now have 2 chooks. One died the other day. I dug a hole in the backyard and a few minutes later that was it.

I now understand when parents tell me that they have to talk to their children about death when a pet dies.
Death reminds me that one day I will die.
And through Jesus' death & resurrection, I'm ready for that day.

Went to the cricket last Friday with a few friends. It was good to see Shaun Marsh score over 100. Enjoyed every minute.
It was nice watching it live.

We had a woman's event last Saturday making ginger bread houses, I wasn't there but I heard it went really well, we had about 70 people there.
Anita didn't get a chance to make hers because she helped run the event so on Saturday night we made this one together.

We had our last youth group night on Friday. So we had an outing to a skate place & sleepover. And yes I still have it, in fact I think a leader won each challenge. And the sleepover was a sleepover not a stay over which was nice.

The veggies & fruit are going well. We have potato's, beans, carrots, strawberry's, lettuce, celery, spring onion & tomato's. The tomato's love it in the glass house, looking forward to when we get some fruit.

There are some jobs I like doing though, like mowing & wiper snipping.
Its easy to do.
I can day dream about other things but still get something done.

So yesterday we went to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens with friends from church.
We enjoyed walking around, looking at the flowers & plants & feeding the ducks.

Post the soccer season, I'm now into riding to keep fit. Went for a ride on a mountain bike track across the road the other day & went up Mt Rumney this arvo.
The view from the top of Mt Rumney was amazing, worth the ride.
I enjoy riding, you can go long distances & explore more places.

What kind of things do you enjoy doing that at the end of there is a sense of achievement or relief?

Our church St Mark's is involved in this ministry. This year we will send 400 Christmas boxes to PNG.
One of the things that struck me was a video of a local minister thanking people who send boxes. He shared how the boxes open up doors for the work of the church in their community.

I like the idea of making a difference in someone elses life & not seeing the outcome.
Its humbling.

Preached today on Mark 8:1-26 which includes the interesting passage where Jesus heals a man twice.
What is going on here?
I think what we have here is an acted out parable that is the hinge of the chapter.
The disciples are spiritually blind, then we have the first healing.
Jesus heals the man a second time, then will go on to tell his disciples that he will die & rise again.

The 40hr famine was on over the weekend. St Mark's had a bunch of young people involved. They went without: food, talking & furniture.
We met a girl Sami from Kenya who was 8 years old. It's hard to believe & take in how she lives each day.
I asked the people who were going without furniture what they were going to do when they finished their 40hrs. Jump on their bed, lie on the couch & other things.
Unfortunately people like Sami don't get the luxury to make that choice.

Prayer:
Awesome God, help me to give generously towards the work of World Vision. Give me a heart for people who are struggling in other countries. Amen

I was really encourage at our 6pm service last night. We had an open prayer time where anyone could pray out loud about anything or choose a prayer point that was written on the white board. The first 3 prayers where by 2 grade 6's & a grade 4, people I've been teaching at Sunday School over the last year & a half.
After the service I prayed with another lady for one of our people who has a bad back at the moment, we even had a bit of oil action - See James 5:13-16 for our framework.

We had an Op-shop fashion parade to day at church. I wore I few smashing outfits from the op-shop. After the parade we had lunch. The parade was to raise money for Operation Christmas child.

Our Easter services went really well this year. We did a kids service yesterday that went for 30min & had about 80 people with over half kids. It had a puppet show, drama, short talk, bubble prayers, helium balloons & an Easter egg hunt.

We were up in Sydney recently because I went to a preaching conference at SMBC. It was great to catch up with friends, family & mates from college. And for people to meet Will.
